Antique Dowry Chest Teak Indian Storage Cupboard Sideboard #941
An antique dowry chest from India with intricate wood carvings. Originally it would have been used to store clothes and other goods safely for the daughters pending married life.
It is constructed from solid teak and wood with some primitive decorative metal brackets and hinges.
The whole unit is very large, heavy and strong.
Inside there are two shelves left and right presumably for small items such as jewellry.
At the bottom are 3 drawers that slide in and out easily and the central one has a relatively new plywood base. Each drawer has a brass ring pull.
This is a very old antique piece at least 1800's ca so there are some small decorative bits missing but overall very nice condition and strong especially for its age.
